Junk Removal and Garage Cleanouts in Arlington, TX
A container in the drive or a crew that loads it, whichever suits the job. Garages, attics, sheds and side yards cleared across Arlington, with the paint shelf routed to the Fort Worth ECC rather than the box.
Arlington houses sit on slab-on-grade, and basements are very rare across North Texas. Expansive clay makes a below-grade wall an engineering problem and there is no frost line forcing a deep excavation, so a basement here is added cost rather than nearly free. That changes the shape of a cleanout. With no lower floor holding thirty years of boxes, the volume sits in the garage, the attic above it, the shed at the back fence and the strip down the side yard. Count those four spaces and you have counted the job. Our Arlington home cleanout checklist works in the same order we do.
You have two ways to get it out. A container sits in the drive and you load it over several days, which suits a slow sort where every bin has to be opened and argued over. A crew is faster when the material is heavy, awkward or already sorted, or when a closing date is fixed and will not move. Plenty of Arlington jobs use both, with a 20 yard box in the driveway for the bulk and two people for the safe, the workbench and the treadmill nobody wants to carry down the hallway.
The reason the call comes at all is the kerbside cap. Since February 2024 the city has run automated carts — a 95-gallon standard cart with a 65-gallon on request — and trash, recycling, yard waste and bulky items all go out on one collection day. Bulky waste is weekly and included, but capped at about 2 cubic yards, which the city describes as washer and dryer scale. A garage and an attic emptied over a weekend is several times that, and construction debris and roofing shingles are not collected kerbside at any volume. Check current terms with the City of Arlington.
What Actually Comes Out Of An Arlington Garage
Garage Clear-Out
With no basement under the house the garage carries the load. Shelving, bikes, tools, camping gear, holiday boxes and the paint shelf that has to be routed somewhere other than the box.
Attic Above The Garage
The only overhead storage a slab house has. Cardboard, photographs, tape and plastic bins that have spent twenty North Texas summers up there come down brittle, dusty and mostly ruined.
Back Shed And Side Yard
The strip behind the gate and the shed at the fence line hold the mower, ladders, pots, spare fence pickets, leftover brick and a shed floor that has finally gone soft underfoot.
Furniture And Mattresses
Sofas, bed frames and particleboard bedroom sets. Texas has no state mattress recycling programme — that scheme runs in four states and Texas is not one of them, so they ride in the box.
Appliance Removal
Washers, dryers, ranges and water heaters. Anything holding refrigerant has to be evacuated by a certified technician under the federal rule before the shell can go anywhere.
Storage Unit Emptying
A rented unit off Collins Street or Pioneer Parkway is a cleanout with a clock on it. We stage a container at the house so the sort happens in one pass, not six weekend trips.
Rental Turnover Clear-Out
Arlington is 45.1% renters, and a turnover gives up carpet, blinds, furniture and abandoned contents at once. Landlords get no free landfill visits, so a container is the practical route.
Student Move-Out Season
UTA has 42,710 students on a campus in the middle of the city, and the end of the spring term empties furniture and mattresses out of houses and duplexes for blocks around it.
Sizing A Junk Removal Container In Arlington
Most Arlington junk jobs land on a 15 yard or a 20 yard. Household junk is bulky and light, so you run out of space long before you run out of weight, and a two-car garage packed to the door will fill a 15 on its own. Take the 20 when the garage, the attic, the shed and the side yard all go in the same week, which is the usual pattern once somebody finally commits. A 10 yard suits one room, a single shed, or a tight original drive in the older Fielder and Woodland West stock where a longer box will not sit square. One thing moves the answer the other way: if broken concrete, brick or tile is going in with the household material, take the smaller box and plan a swap. Tell us how many spaces you are clearing and whether the furniture is going in.

Deal with the chemical shelf before anything else moves. Paint, solvents, motor oil, fuel, pool and garden chemicals, pesticides and chemical batteries stay out of the container. Arlington has no permanent household hazardous waste facility of its own and sends residents instead to the Fort Worth Environmental Collection Center at 6400 Bridge Street, open Thursday and Friday 11am to 7pm and Saturday 9am to 3pm. Arlington is a participating city, so it is free, no voucher is needed, and the limit is one visit per household per month with a driver licence or a water bill as proof. It takes automotive fluids to a 10 gallon limit, cleaning and pool chemicals, cooking oil, light bulbs and paint supplies, and it is residential only, so a contractor cannot use it. PaintCare does not operate in Texas, whatever national guides say — latex paint can be dried out and put in the regular trash, and oil-based paint goes to the ECC. Ring 817-392-1234 first, particularly about propane cylinders. We cannot take asbestos-containing material in any container, ever.

Junk Removal Dumpsters FAQs
Should I rent a container or have a crew haul it away?
It depends on how much sorting is left. If every bin has to be opened and decided on, a container in the driveway gives you several days to work at your own pace, and that is the calmer way to handle a slow garage and attic sort. If the material is heavy, awkward or already sorted, or a closing date is fixed, a crew is faster. A lot of Arlington jobs use both, with a box in the drive for the bulk and two people for the safe, the workbench and the exercise equipment. Ring the yard, describe the spaces, and we will tell you which way makes sense for what you actually have.
Why is everything in the garage and the attic here?
Because there is nothing under the house. Basements are very rare across North Texas: expansive clay makes a below-grade wall an engineering problem, there is no frost line requiring a deep excavation, and a basement ends up as pure added cost. So every box, bin and seasonal item that would live on a lower level in another market ends up in the garage, the attic over it, the shed or the side yard. A national sizing guide written around a lower storage floor will oversize your container badly. Count the outbuildings instead of the bedrooms and the estimate comes out much closer.
What do I do with the paint and chemicals in the garage?
Set them aside before anything else moves. Arlington has no permanent household hazardous waste site, so residents use the Fort Worth Environmental Collection Center at 6400 Bridge Street, Thursday and Friday 11am to 7pm and Saturday 9am to 3pm. Arlington is a participating city, so it is free with no voucher, once a month per household, with a driver licence or water bill. It is residential only, so a contractor cannot use it. PaintCare does not operate in Texas. Latex paint can be dried out and binned; oil-based paint goes to the ECC. Call 817-392-1234 before you load the car, especially about propane.
Can I just use my kerbside cart and the bulky pickup?
For a little of it. Since February 2024 Arlington has run a 95-gallon automated cart, with a 65-gallon on request and up to two extra carts at $6.89 a month each, and everything goes out on one collection day. Bulky waste is weekly and included but capped at roughly 2 cubic yards, which the city describes as washer and dryer scale. The city also states plainly that construction debris and roofing shingles cannot be collected kerbside and that contractors are responsible for hauling them. That gap is the whole reason roll-offs exist here. The Action Center on 817-459-6777 can confirm an item.
Is it cheaper to haul a small load to the landfill myself?
Sometimes, and we would rather say so. Arlington homeowners get three free drop-offs a year at the Arlington Landfill, 800 Mosier Valley Road in Euless, open Monday to Saturday 7:00am to 4:30pm. You must be an Arlington Water Utilities account holder with a permanent Arlington residence, it is homeowners only and non-transferrable, and the scale house wants a Texas driver licence or ID. For one pickup load that is the cheaper route. For a full garage or anything a contractor touched it is not, and landlords get no free visits. The landfill is on (817) 354-2305.
